Definition
Aizu means signalling your intention with indicators or hand signals before you turn, change lanes, or stop. The timing is fixed by law: for a turn you signal from 30 m before the point (or the near edge of the intersection); for a lane change you signal 3 seconds before.
On the test
True/false example: "You signal a right turn when you reach a point 50 m before the intersection." — False. The distance is 30 m, not 50. And a lane change is signalled 3 seconds before, not 1 second.
The law behind it
The Order for Enforcement of the Road Traffic Act, Article 21, sets the timing: 30 m before for turning and U-turns, and 3 seconds before for a lane change. These exact figures are common exam traps.
